Job summary

IDEA Services supports adults with intellectual disabilities to live independently and participate in their communities. We are seeking a dedicated Support Worker to help manage challenging behaviours and medical needs, promoting safety and meaningful progress.

You will assist with daily living skills and support independence, working across day, evening, overnight, and weekend shifts with a range of tasks based on individual abilities. Training is provided.

Qualifications

• No prior experience in health and disability sector required; enthusiasm and willingness to learn are valued.
• Full training and orientation provided to those who demonstrate commitment.
• Ability to navigate behaviours that can challenge and support independence.

Responsibilities

• Assist individuals with complex behavioural and medical needs to promote safety and positive behaviour.
• Support development of independence and daily living skills.
• Work daytime, evening, overnight, and weekend shifts with tasks tailored to each person.
• Assist with transportation, finances, meal preparation, shopping, cleaning, showering, and medication administration.

Mō te tūnga | About the role

We are seeking Support Workers to assist individuals with complex behavioural and medical needs. You will play a key role in helping manage overwhelming emotions and health-related challenges, while promoting safety and positive behaviour for the individuals.

As a Support Worker you will be providing assistance to individuals in developing their independence and acquiring skills for daily living. You will be required to have the availability to work a range of daytime, evening, overnight, and weekend shifts supporting with a range of tasks dependent on individual ability. Tasks may include transportation, employment, finances, meal preparation, shopping, cleaning, showering, and medication administration.

This role requires physical fitness, resilience, and confidence to manage risk and respond effectively in challenging situations. With the right approach, you can help create a supportive environment where meaningful progress is possible.

No prior experience in the health and disability sector is necessary, but a strong desire to pursue a career as a Support Worker with a positive attitude is highly valued. Full training and orientation will be provided to individuals who demonstrate enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.

• Ability to navigate behaviours that can challenge
• Availability to work flexible shifts, including weekends and wakeover shifts.
• Comfortable and proficient in using computers and tablets daily.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Physical fitness to provide necessary physical support.
• Possession of a Full NZ driver's license.
