Job summary

IDEA Services in Whanganui, New Zealand, seeks Support Workers to assist individuals with complex behavioural and medical needs, helping manage emotions and health-related challenges while promoting safety and positive behaviour.

You will support people to develop independence and daily living skills, with daytime, evening, overnight and weekend shifts. No prior health sector experience is required, as full training and orientation are provided to eager learners.

Mō te tūnga | About the role

We are seeking Support Workers to assist individuals with complex behavioural and medical needs. You will play a key role in helping manage overwhelming emotions and health-related challenges, while promoting safety and positive behaviour for the individuals.

As a Support Worker you will be providing assistance to individuals in developing their independence and acquiring skills for daily living. You will be required to have the availability to work a range of daytime, evening, overnight, and weekend shifts supporting with a range of tasks dependent on individual ability. Tasks may include transportation, employment, finances, meal preparation, shopping, cleaning, showering, and medication administration.

This role requires physical fitness, resilience, and confidence to manage risk and respond effectively in challenging situations. With the right approach, you can help create a supportive environment where meaningful progress is possible.

No prior experience in the health and disability sector is necessary, but a strong desire to pursue a career as a Support Worker with a positive attitude is highly valued. Full training and orientation will be provided to individuals who demonstrate enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.

• Comfortable and proficient in using computers and tablets daily.


• Strong written and verbal communication skills.


• Physical fitness to provide necessary physical support.


• Possession of a Full NZ driver's license.
