Job summary

IHC is seeking a Support Worker in Rotorua to assist adults with intellectual disabilities in their own homes and community. The role includes night support, managing risks, and delivering individualized care to help clients achieve daily living goals.

You will support emotional regulation, independence, and daily routines while fostering strong whānau connections. Prior caregiving experience is preferred; training toward Health & Wellbeing certificates is offered, with licenses and tech

Qualifications

• Experience in caregiving or personal care for adults preferred.
• Calm nature and confidence with challenging behaviours.
• Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends and sleepovers.
• Comfortable using computers and tablets daily.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Physical fitness to provide necessary support.
• Full NZ driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Support people with intellectual disabilities living in their own homes to achieve goals and aspirations.
• Provide care and manage risk to ensure safety and well‑being.
• Assist with daily living activities: toileting, showering, dressing, and medication administration.
• Help clients develop independence and life skills like using public transport and cooking.
• Support healthy lifestyle choices and meaningful activities within their community.

As a Support Worker you will be supporting clients with complex needs, managing risk, ensuring safety, and providing individual care throughout the night.

This role involves helping the people we support to:

• recognise and respond to emotional overwhelm.
• grow their independence and learn skills for daily living such as using public transport, getting a job, cooking a meal.
• manage their daily routines - toileting, showering, getting dressed, take medication or eat a meal.
• pursue their goals, interests, and hobbies.
• stay healthy and making positive choices about their lifestyle.
• have strong connections with their whānau and community.

Previous relevant experience is preferred, but more importantly, we are looking for someone with varied life experience and the right attitude.

• Preferably previous experience in caregiving or providing personal care for adults.
