Job summary

Ka Puta Ka Ora Emerge Aotearoa is seeking a permanent Support Worker for the Rototuna Rd ID Service in Rototuna, Hamilton. The role involves supporting tāngata whaikaha with intellectual disabilities across a 24/7 roster, including early, late, and sleepover shifts.

You will help people develop daily living skills, increase independence, participate in community activities, and follow individual support plans while keeping thorough records.

Qualifications

  • NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing Level 4 or equivalent, or commitment to obtaining.
  • Proven experience supporting tāngata whaikaha with intellectual disabilities.
  • Ability to work with people with complex support needs.
  • Willingness to rotate roster including weekends and sleepovers.
  • Ability to demonstrate decision-making and crisis response.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; CPR certification preferred.

We have a permanent Support Worker opportunity within our Rototuna Rd ID Service, supporting both our Residential and Supported Independent Living (SIL) mobile team in Rototuna, Hamilton. This role supports tāngata whaikaha with intellectual disabilities to live meaningful lives and achieve their goals while working across a 24/7 roster, including shifts from 6.30am to 3.00pm, 2.30pm to 11.00pm, and 11.00pm to 7.00am sleepover shifts.

You will:
  • Support people to develop daily living skills and increase independence.
  • Assist with community participation, social connections, and meaningful activities.
  • Follow individual support plans and contribute to positive outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and report any changes in wellbeing.
  • Work collaboratively with whānau, colleagues, and external providers.
  • Promote a safe, respectful, and person-centred environment.

You're patient, adaptable, and enjoy supporting people to achieve their goals. You remain calm under pressure, work well as part of a team, and take a positive, respectful approach when supporting people with diverse needs.

You will bring:
  • NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing Level 4 (or equivalent), or a commitment to obtaining the relevant qualification within the required timeframe.
  • Proven experience supporting tāngata whaikaha with Intellectual Disabilities.
  • Ability to work effectively with people who have complex support needs.
  • Flexibility to work a rotating roster, including weekends, evenings, and sleepover shifts.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective decision-making and response in crisis situations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with basic computer literacy.
  • Must hold and maintain First Aid certification including CPR, or be willing and able to complete this.
