Job description

Jora New Zealand will close on 9th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.

Are you ready to make a difference every day?

Ka Puta Ka Ora Emerge Aotearoa is a national provider of mental health, addiction, disability, offender rehabilitation, wellbeing, and housing services. We believe that everyone is capable of living full and rich lives in their communities of choice. In every aspect of our work, we are committed to helping whānau (families) be the best they can be.

We are seeking a Casual Support Worker to join our Ngā Taumahatanga Service in Manurewa. This mixed gender residential mental health service provides Housing and Recovery Services for adults requiring sophisticated interventions from a dynamic team of people.

We focus on supporting tāngata whaiora (people seeking wellness) to progress their recovery and rehabilitation in a safe, nurturing environment where they can realise their potential and achieve their goals. This service has rostered shifts Monday to Sunday, including morning shifts (7:00am to 3:30pm), afternoon shifts (3:00pm to 11:30pm), and awake night shifts (11:00pm to 7:30am).

You will:

  • Walk alongside tāngata whaiora as they develop the skills and confidence to live as independently as possible within the community.
  • Support tāngata whaiora with goal planning and encourage progress towards recovery and rehabilitation goals.
  • Assist with cooking, cleaning, and day-to-day household tasks while encouraging participation in learning daily living skills.
  • Support tāngata whaiora to connect with, maintain, and build relationships with their whānau and community.
  • Monitor wellbeing and appropriately report and document incidents, concerns, or changes.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, clinical teams, community providers, and other stakeholders.

You are passionate about supporting people on their recovery journey and can build strong relationships while maintaining professional boundaries. You bring resilience, patience, sound judgement, and a genuine commitment to supporting positive outcomes for people from diverse backgrounds.

You will bring:

  • NZ Certificate in Health & Wellbeing Level 4 (or equivalent), or a commitment towards obtaining the relevant minimum qualification within the required timeframe.
  • Experience working in mental health, addiction, disability, housing, community services, or a related support role.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • A calm, patient, and solutions-focused approach when managing challenging situations.
  • Knowledge of community resources and support networks.
  • Basic computer skills and confidence using client management systems.
  • An understanding of recovery-focused practice and person-centred support.
  • Must hold and maintain First Aid certification including CPR (or be willing and able to complete this).

Join us to experience a work environment where values are lived every day. You will be proud to apply your skills and make a difference.

We offer:

  • Pay rate: $25.67 - $30.52 per hour
  • Access to extensive wellbeing support – including counselling, budgeting advice, coaching services, and mental health workshops to support your hauora (wellbeing) and personal growth.
  • Staff discounts with Southern Cross Health, PB Tech, Harvey Norman, Anytime Fitness, and more.
  • Generous leave entitlements (part-time role only): including wellbeing leave, cultural leave, and study leave (where applicable).
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities.
  • Inclusive and supportive teams grounded in Te Tiriti o Waitangi (The Treaty of Waitangi) and our Pou.
  • Opportunities to grow within one of Aotearoa's largest for-purpose organisations.
