Placements24 seeks a skilled Substation Technician for our client in Queenstown, NZ to install, maintain and repair substation equipment. You will work as part of a dedicated team performing inspections, preventative maintenance and emergency repairs on high‑voltage systems.

The role requires a National Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent trade qualification, at least 4 years of substation experience, and strong knowledge of safety procedures and test equipment.

Qualifications

• Diploma or trade qualification in electrical engineering or electrician with substation experience.
• Minimum 4 years' experience in electrical substations.
• Strong knowledge of high-voltage equipment and safety procedures.
• Experience using electrical test equipment (multimeters, insulation testers, relay test sets).
• Ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Install, test and commission substation equipment including transformers and switchgear.
• Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on substations.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical faults safely and efficiently.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints and manuals.
• Maintain strict adherence to safety regulations including LOTO protocols.
• Assist in outage management and restoration as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Adhere strictly to all safety regulations and procedures, including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) protocols.
• Assist in outage management and restoration efforts as needed.

Requirements

• National Diploma in Electrical Engineering or a relevant trade qualification (e.g., Electrician with substation experience).
• Minimum of 4 years of experience working in electrical substations.
• Strong knowledge of high-voltage equipment and safety procedures.
• Proficiency in using test equipment for electrical systems (e.g., multimeters, insulation testers, relay test sets).
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel and work outside normal hours when required.
