Job summary

HI Technology & Innovation is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer in New Zealand to join our platform team during a cloud-native migration.

You’ll migrate a self-managed Kubernetes cluster to Amazon EKS, move Kafka to a managed service and strengthen stability, observability and security while collaborating with a senior team. The six‑month contract may extend, and you’ll work with overlaps to Australian hours.

Qualifications

• Hands-on Kubernetes migration experience and knowledge of EKS.
• Strong Linux/Cloud infrastructure skills with Terraform.
• Experience migrating Kafka to managed services (e.g., MSK).
• Comfortable working in AWS-based environments and collaborating with senior teams.

Responsibilities

• Migrate a self-managed Kubernetes cluster to Amazon EKS.
• Manage and improve AWS infrastructure defined in Terraform.
• Move self-hosted Kafka to a managed service with minimal disruption.
• Keep the platform stable, observable and secure during the transition.
• Collaborate closely with a senior internal team and take ownership of tasks.
• Document risks and maintain clear, usable handover information.
