Job summary

Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children invites applications for a Senior Advisor Redress in our Wellington office. You will assess complex abuse in-care claims, advocate for claimants, and coordinate timely redress responses that prioritise wellbeing and child-centred practice.

The role requires strong cross-cultural understanding, collaboration with iwi, hapū and agencies, and the ability to reflect tamariki and rangatahi views in all decisions.

Qualifications

• Provide timely, nationally consistent responses to claimants.
• Ensure tamariki and rangatahi remain at the centre of decision making in claims and redress.
• Build relationships across Oranga Tamariki and other agencies as appropriate.
• Identify themes from claims information to inform feedback loops and improve services.
• Knowledge of tikanga Māori and Pacific cultures is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assess and respond to abuse claims from those in Oranga Tamariki care.
• Advocate for claimant needs and coordinate timely redress responses.
• Provide expert knowledge to inform assessments and decision making.
• Collaborate with management to identify emerging risks and service improvements.
• Engage directly with claimants in a compassionate, trauma-informed manner.
