Basis NZ Ltd is building the future of home electrification with an IoT-driven platform. We seek a senior engineer to own the infrastructure, reliability and APIs that power our metering and data services. You’ll lead incident response, drive observability, and design scalable systems for rapid, safe software delivery.

Location is Christchurch or Auckland with hybrid flexibility. You’ll collaborate across a small, autonomous team to solve hard problems, improve pipelines, and deliver impact for

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in infrastructure, SRE or platform engineering, including backend development, ideally with IoT or data-intensive systems.
• Proficiency with at least one cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure) and Terraform.
• Hands-on experience running production systems: incident response, monitoring and alerting, and capacity planning.
• Experience running SQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL).
• Demonstrated expertise in designing, building and operating scalable, distributed systems and APIs (REST or GraphQL).
• Experience building and managing CI/CD pipelines.
• Hands-on experience writing meaningful unit, integration and end-to-end tests.
• The ability to understand problems and their impact on customers, and to design robust technical solutions.
• A track record of working with a high degree of autonomy and owning systems end to end.

Responsabilités

• Infrastructure: own performance, scaling and maintenance as we grow, and lead consolidation of legacy AWS.
• Reliability: lead incident response and root-cause analysis, and drive preventive work.
• Observability and CI/CD: instrument applications with monitoring, logging and alerting; improve pipelines.
• Distributed systems: design, develop and maintain scalable, distributed backend services.
• APIs: build secure, well-documented APIs for apps, partners and internal services.
• Metering troubleshooting: diagnose metering data issues and reconciliation errors.
• Platform support: act as SME for the core platform and its operational health.
• Quality and standards: write clean, tested code; mentor and review others; reduce technical debt.
