Basis NZ Ltd is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to own our data platform, turning high-rate home energy data into evidence for regulators and decisions for customers. You will architect pipelines, implement quality controls, and deliver data products for regulatory and commercial needs.

You’ll collaborate with software, embedded and hardware engineers, enforce data governance, and operate with a high degree of autonomy in a cross-disciplinary team.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in a data engineering role building end-to-end ETL pipelines and datasets, ideally with high-rate time-series or sensor data.
• Experience building, maintaining and improving batch and streaming data pipelines.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, and storage optimized for high-speed time series data.
• Experience implementing DevOps practices within the data platform, including CI/CD, data observability, monitoring and lineage.
• The ability to write software in at least two of: C, C++, C#, Rust, Go, Python, JavaScript.
• An understanding of the wider system and its impact on software decisions.
• A track record of working with autonomy and owning systems end to end.
• Comfort with uncertainty and a team-first attitude.

Responsibilities

• Own the data platform end to end.
• Architect and maintain data infrastructure for analytics, modelling and reporting across cloud and edge platforms.
• Build, maintain and improve batch and streaming data pipelines.
• Establish pipelines that demonstrate automated data quality and regulatory compliance for metering data.
• Own reporting and data products that underpin commercial and regulatory obligations.
• Link high-rate data with national and global climate, energy and financial streams.
• Own energy & savings models, validation and fleet reporting.
• Enforce data quality, security, governance, availability and lineage across the platform.
• Set up & maintain test frameworks, CI and data QC; support systems integration testing.
