Job summary

Beca Wellington office is seeking a senior planning professional to join our team in Wellington, NZ. You will work with a local team of planning experts as part of a nationwide network of professionals, delivering high-impact planning advice and multidisciplinary project outcomes.

You will contribute to complex local and regional projects, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with clients and stakeholders to shape sustainable outcomes across Aotearoa New Zealand.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of NZ urban/environmental planning experience.
  • Sound knowledge of the Resource Management Act (RMA).
  • Experience in regional planning and consenting is desirable.
  • Collaborative style with the ability to mentor others.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality planning advice and project outcomes for diverse clients.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to manage complex projects.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships and stakeholder engagement.

As a member of our tight‑knit team, you’ll work on a diverse range of exciting projects alongside clients includingTiakiWai, Wellington City Council,Transpower, NZ Transport Agency,Department ofConservation,Ministry of Education and renewable energy providers and industrial clients, amongst others.Recent local projects we havebeeninvolved in include the Te Ara Tupuashared path, Porirua wastewater storagetankand Wellington’s sludgeminimisationfacility.

In this role,you’llbring your technicalexpertise, collaborative mindset and client focus to deliver high-quality planning advice and project outcomes.   • A degree inplanning,environmentalmanagementora relateddiscipline, and NZPI membership (full membership or working towards this).
  • 6+years’New Zealandexperience inurbanand/orenvironmental planning.
  • Sound knowledge of the RMA with practical experience in statutory and strategic planning.
  • Strong experience inregional consentingisdesirable.
  • A collaborative style, experience working in a teamenvironmentand developing others.
  • Commercial awareness and client-focused approach.
  • Excellent communication and written skills and a broad understanding of disciplines related to planning matters: you will be able to engage effectively with clients, mana whenua,stakeholdersand the public.
  • Previousexperience in consultancy would be desirable, and experience working in the water, transport, and energy markets, or with industrial and government clients, would be an advantage.
