Job summary

Align in Wellington, New Zealand, is seeking an Intermediate Planner to join our multi-disciplinary consultancy. You’ll work with experienced professionals on infrastructure, development and environmental projects across Aotearoa, delivering planning advice and statutory documentation.

You’ll engage with stakeholders, prepare assessments and reports, and contribute to successful outcomes for public, private and commercial clients while embracing hybrid work arrangements and ongoing professional

Qualifications

  • NZPI-accredited planning degree or relevant tertiary qualification in planning, resource management, environmental science, geography or similar.
  • 4 years of planning experience.
  • Experience preparing or contributing to resource consent applications and assessments.
  • Knowledge of New Zealand planning legislation and statutory planning processes.
  • Strong written communication and technical report writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Sound organisational and time management abilities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • A current full New Zealand driver’s licence.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting plan change, policy and strategic planning projects.
  • Providing planning advice to public and private sector clients.
  • Preparing technical reports, submissions and planning assessments.
  • Undertaking stakeholder and community engagement activities.
  • Attending project meetings, workshops and site visits.
  • Coordinating specialist technical inputs where required.
  • Supporting project delivery, programme management and client reporting.
  • Working collaboratively with planners and multi-disciplinary project teams to achieve successful outcomes.

INTERMEDIATE PLANNER

We work with central and local government agencies, utility providers, developers, and private sector clients across a wide range of sectors including transportation, water, energy, housing, education, recreation and open space planning.

Aligns collaborative team combines expertise across environmental and urban planning, spatial planning, parks and open space planning, property acquisition, legalisation and disposal, geospatial services, project management and strategic asset management to help deliver successful project outcomes for our clients and communities.

What you'll do

As an Intermediate Planner, you will work alongside experienced planning professionals on a diverse range of infrastructure, development and environmental projects throughout New Zealand. You will provide planning advice, prepare statutory planning documentation, engage with stakeholders and contribute to delivering high-quality outcomes for our diverse range of public, private and commercial clients across Aotearoa.

Skills, experience and qualities

We're looking for an emerging planning professional who is motivated, solutions-focused and keen to continue developing their career within a supportive consultancy environment. We are looking for those who have the following skills and experience:

  • A NZPI-accredited planning degree or a relevant tertiary qualification in planning, resource management, environmental science, geography or similar.
  • 4 years of relevant industry planning experience.
  • Experience preparing or contributing to resource consent applications and assessments.
  • Knowledge of New Zealand planning legislation and statutory planning processes.
  • Strong written communication and technical report writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Sound organisational and time management abilities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
