Job summary

ChristchurchNZ is seeking an experienced Major Events leader to own and drive the contracted major events portfolio in Ōtautahi Christchurch. You will ensure events meet contractual obligations and investment outcomes, while collaborating with rights holders, government agencies and partners to maximise economic and community benefits.

The role focuses on partnerships, governance and strategic delivery, rather than event production, leading a small team and shaping the city’s major events

Qualifications

• Significant experience within major events, preferably international level.
• Strong contract management and commercial acumen.
• Outstanding stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
• Understanding of government funding, investment and reporting frameworks.
• Ability to think strategically while maintaining delivery oversight.
• Passion for creating lasting legacy and community impact through events.

Responsibilities

• Lead the successful delivery and performance of the major events portfolio.
• Manage contractual obligations, funding agreements and reporting requirements.
• Build and maintain relationships with event owners, rights holders, government agencies and key stakeholders.
• Oversee portfolio governance, risk management and performance reporting; drive community engagement and legacy outcomes.
• Identify future opportunities to maximise economic, social and community impact.
