Job summary

About the opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join a growing New Zealand building services consultancy and take on a key technical leadership role within its Cambridge office. This is an exciting opportunity for a senior engineer who is ready to step beyond project delivery and take greater ownership of technical leadership, client relationships and the day‑to‑day electrical engineering function. The business has an established Auckland office, with further growth underway in Tauranga and Whanganui. The Cambridge team is also growing, creating an opportunity for an experienced engineer to play a significant role in shaping the future of the local office.

About the role

Working closely with the Cambridge Director and wider team, you will take increasing ownership of the electrical engineering function, allowing the Director to focus more heavily on business growth, strategy and the continued development of the business. Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading the delivery of electrical building services projects from concept through to completion
• Providing technical leadership across the Cambridge electrical engineering team
• Reviewing designs, documentation and technical deliverables
• Acting as a senior point of contact for clients and project stakeholders
• Managing technical risk, quality and project delivery
• Mentoring and supporting junior and intermediate engineers
• Working collaboratively with other building services disciplines
• Providing technical input into proposals, tenders and business development opportunities
• Building and maintaining strong client relationships
• Supporting the Director with technical and project oversight
• Taking ownership of the day‑to‑day electrical engineering function in Cambridge
• Identifying opportunities to improve systems, processes and technical capability
• Contributing to the growth and development of the Cambridge office

This is a role where you’ll have genuine autonomy and influence. You'll be trusted to make decisions, lead technical delivery and become a key part of the local leadership team.

The opportunity

The ideal person will become the senior technical lead for the Cambridge office, working closely with the Director and taking responsibility for the electrical discipline. You'll have the opportunity to help shape the team, develop less experienced engineers, strengthen client relationships and improve how the Cambridge office delivers its work. As the business continues to grow, there is genuine scope for this role to develop further into a broader engineering leadership or management position.

About you

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Building Services Engineer who is technically strong, commercially aware and ready to take the next step in their career. You will ideally have:

• Significant experience in electrical building services engineering
• Strong technical knowledge across electrical building services design
• Experience delivering projects from concept through to completion
• The ability to review and oversee technical work
• Strong client and stakeholder management skills
• Experience mentoring or leading other engineers
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
• Strong commercial and project awareness
• The confidence to make decisions and take ownership
• A genuine interest in developing people and contributing to the wider business

Professional registration or relevant industry accreditation would be advantageous. Experience within a building services consultancy is strongly preferred. Most importantly, we're looking for someone who is ready to step up, take ownership and become a key technical leader within the Cambridge office.
