Job summary

Industrial Controls South Canterbury Ltd seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of complex industrial electrical projects in Timaru. You’ll be responsible for concept through construction support, testing and commissioning on processing, manufacturing and infrastructure sites.

You’ll collaborate with electricians, automation engineers and project teams, driving high standards in safety, quality and technical excellence while mentoring graduates and improving

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
  • 5+ years designing and delivering industrial electrical projects, preferably in processing/manufacturing.
  • Strong capability in power distribution, motor control, protection systems and related drawings/specifications.
  • Proven ownership of engineering work from scope through commissioning and handover.
  • Collaborative, proactive attitude with clients, consultants and contractors.

Responsibilities

  • Understand project requirements with clients to develop practical electrical solutions.
  • Define project scope, prepare estimates and electrical design inputs.
  • Design and specify industrial electrical systems including power distribution and motor control.
  • Create drawings, calculations, specifications and project documentation.
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers and coordinate with electricians and automation teams.
  • Provide technical leadership during testing, commissioning and handover.
  • Review designs to ensure safety, quality and engineering standards.

Job description

Join our team as a Senior Electrical Engineer, where you’ll lead the design and delivery of Join our Engineering team leading the design and delivery of complex industrial electrical projects across a wide range of processing, manufacturing and infrastructure environments. You’ll be involved across the full project lifecycle, from concept development, design and estimation through to construction support, testing, commissioning and project completion.

You’ll work alongside electrical engineers, electricians, automation engineers and wider project teams, delivering electrical solutions for some of New Zealand’s leading companies. With work ranging from major greenfield developments and plant expansions to brownfield upgrades and ongoing site improvements, you’ll gain exposure to different industries, technologies and large-scale industrial environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with clients to understand project requirements and develop practical, fit-for-purpose engineering solutions
  • Define project scope, prepare estimates and establish electrical design requirements
  • Design and specify industrial electrical systems including power distribution, motor control and protection systems
  • Develop electrical drawings, calculations, specifications and project documentation
  • Work alongside electricians, automation engineers, project managers, clients and other contractors throughout project delivery and installation
  • Provide technical leadership and engineering support through testing, commissioning and project completion
  • Review designs and project outcomes to maintain high standards of safety, quality and engineering practice
  • Mentor graduate and developing engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of our engineering practices

What We’re Looking For:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent relevant qualification and experience
  • 5+ years’ experience designing and delivering industrial electrical projects, ideally within processing or manufacturing environments
  • Strong technical capability in industrial power distribution, motor control, protection systems and electrical design, including the development of drawings, calculations, specifications and technical documentation
  • Proven ability to take ownership of engineering work from initial scope and design through to installation, testing and commissioningConfident and professional working with clients, consultants and principal contractors, including presenting technical solutions, contributing to tenders and working through project requirements and clarifications
  • A collaborative, can-do attitude when working with teammates, clients and other contractors, backed by a strong work ethic and the drive to get the job done
  • Experience and relevant certification in hazardous areas, machine safety or electrical inspection would be an advantage
