Job summary

BNZ is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to lead design, delivery and improvement of data products powering insights and decision-making. You will work across data warehousing, mainframe and cloud technologies while guiding the team’s technical direction and engineering practices.

The role combines hands-on data engineering with leadership, in a collaborative, agile context. You will mentor engineers, ensure robust testing and promote modern DevOps standards in a hybrid Wellington or Auckland

Qualifications

Proven SQL and mainframe expertise with JCL/SAS.
Experience with data warehouse concepts and practices.
Desirable Snowflake, Python and Airflow familiarity.
Commitment to modern engineering practices and DevOps.

Responsibilities

Gather and understand data requirements and source-system constraints.
Explore raw and conformed data; transform into reliable products and reports.
Produce high-value technical documentation for stakeholders and sign-off.
Perform rigorous unit testing and assist with system testing as needed.
Complete code peer reviews, mentor engineers and promote strong engineering practice.
Improve platform stability, scalability, security and compliance.
Use AI-powered development tools responsibly to enhance delivery and quality.
Collaborate with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to align with BNZ goals.
