Job summary

KARL STORZ SE & Co. KG is seeking a skilled Biomedical Engineer/Medical Device Technician to oversee the New Zealand workshop in Auckland. You will manage equipment intake, job prioritisation, and ensure documentation is audit-ready within SAP and our QMS.

Your role includes testing, repairing, and safeguarding capital medical equipment for Sales and Customer teams. Applicants should have 5–10 years in the field, NZ EWRB eligibility or willingness to obtain, and a relevant degree.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years' experience in field biomedical engineering or medical device service.
• EWRB registration (EST/Electrician) with MCPA endorsement, or willingness to obtain.
• Degree or diploma in Biomedical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline.
• Experience installing, maintaining, and servicing capital medical equipment.
• Full, current New Zealand driver’s licence.
• Legal eligibility to work in New Zealand.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations of the New Zealand workshop, including equipment intake and prioritising jobs.
• Maintain accurate service records, job tracking and work orders in SAP and QMS, audit-ready.
• Inspect, test, and repair loan and demonstration equipment to meet sales and customer needs.
• Drive asset lifecycle management by identifying aging equipment and prioritising service or replacement needs.
• Conduct safety and performance testing in line with regulatory standards (ANZ 3551) and company requirements.
• Deliver preventative maintenance and responsive repair services across NZ to ensure equipment reliability.
• Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues and escalate as needed.
• Install and validate software updates, manage system integrations and troubleshoot related issues.
• Adhere to Medsafe and TGA regulatory requirements and NZ health and safety legislation.
• Support continuous improvement of customer excellence processes and quality standards.

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date service records, job tracking, and work orders within SAP and the KARL STORZ Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring all documentation is audit-ready at all times.
• Inspect, test, and repair loan and demonstration equipment to ensure availability meets the needs of the sales and customer teams.
• Drive a proactive and strategic approach to asset lifecycle management by identifying aging equipment, prioritising service or replacement needs, and aligning actions with customer requirements and service contract commitments.
• Conduct safety and performance testing of KARL STORZ equipment in compliance with applicable regulatory standards, including ANZ 3551, and internal company requirements.
• Deliver both preventative maintenance and responsive repair services across the New Zealand customer base to ensure optimal equipment performance and reliability.
• Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues independently, escalating where necessary to ensure timely and effective resolution.
• Install and validate software updates, manage system integrations, and troubleshoot related issues to maintain and enhance overall equipment functionality and performance.
• Ensure all work is carried out in full compliance with Medsafe and TGA regulatory requirements, as well as applicable New Zealand health and safety legislation.
• Adhere to KARL STORZ quality standards and internal Quality Management System (QMS) requirements at all times.
• Apply sound knowledge of hospital and surgical environments, including relevant standards such as AS/NZS 3551 and AS/NZS 3200.
• Demonstrate working knowledge of ISO 13485 and its application within medical device servicing and quality processes.
• Support the continuous improvement of customer excellence processes, documentation, and quality standards in line with direction from the Biomedical Technology Manager.

Your Talents

• 5-10 years' experience in field biomedical engineering or a medical device service role.
• EWRB registration (EST/Electrician) with MCPA endorsement, or willingness to obtain.
• A degree or diploma in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience in the installation, maintenance, and servicing of capital medical equipment.
• A full, current New Zealand driver's licence.
• Legal eligibility to work in New Zealand.
