Job summary

Port Otago Group in Port Chalmers seeks a hands-on Safety Advisor to join the People & Safety team on a permanent full-time basis. You’ll provide practical safety advice, training and coaching across container and bulk operations, cruise ships and marine activity.

You’ll partner with managers and crews to drive safe work practices, conduct investigations, develop SOPs and lead continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring a culture of safety and accountability.

Qualifications

• Experience in health and safety advisory or generalist roles in industrial settings.
• Practical safety investigation experience (ICAM or equivalent).
• Ability to influence at all levels and build relationships.
• Strong communication and coaching skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day safety advice and guidance to managers and teams.
• Lead investigations and identify root causes with corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver safety training and SOPs.
• Support Safe Systems of Work for high-risk activities.
• Drive continuous safety improvements.
