Job summary

Port Otago Group in Dunedin is seeking a Safety Coordinator to join the People & Safety team at our award‑winning Head Office in Port Chalmers. The role blends on‑site activity with behind‑the‑scenes coordination across a busy 24/7 port environment.

You’ll support a safety‑minded team, maintain systems, and help drive safe work practices, investigations, and reporting while building strong relationships with marine crews, maintenance, and office staff.

Qualifications

• Experience in health and safety within an operational environment.
• NZ Certificate in Workplace Health and Safety Practice preferred.
• Strong communication across levels and teams.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with practical, solutions‑focused thinking.

Responsibilities

• Moderate incident reports and critical control checks, and support investigations.
• Track and close out safety actions.
• Undertake inspections, audits and VSL activities, supporting HSR inspections.
• Complete contractor and PCBU pre‑qualification assessments.
• Prepare Health & Safety and Runaka meeting packs and take minutes.
• Support safe systems of work (JSAs and Permit to Work) and use of the Safety Management System.
• Support reporting, SharePoint, SOPs and improvement projects.
