Job summary

Port Otago Group is seeking a Safety Coordinator to join the People & Safety team at the award-winning Port Chalmers head office. You will help maintain safety systems and processes across operations from container terminals to marine activities, ensuring the safety of people and assets.

You will moderate incidents, coordinate safety actions, and assist with audits, inspections and reporting while building strong relationships across marine, maintenance and office teams.

Qualifications

• Health & safety experience or Health & Safety Representative background.
• Strong communication skills across all levels.
• Sound judgement with practical, solutions-focused approach.
• Ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities.
• Strong organisational and computer skills with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Moderate incident reports and critical control checks; support investigations.
• Track and close out safety actions.
• Undertake inspections, audits and VSL activities; support HSR inspection programme.
• Complete contractor and PCBU pre-qualification assessments.
• Prepare Health & Safety and Runaka meeting packs and take minutes.
• Support safe systems of work (JSAs and Permit to Work) and our Safety Management System.
• Support the team with reporting, SharePoint, SOPs and improvement projects.

Education

New Zealand Certificate in Workplace Health and Safety Practice (Level 3 or Level 4)
