Job summary

VIP Coatings in Rolleston, Canterbury is seeking an experienced QA Manager to own quality, technical compliance and documentation across workshop and site operations.

You will develop ITPs and QA reports, review coating specs and drawings, oversee surface preparation and coating inspection, and liaise with clients and inspectors to ensure compliance.

Qualifications

  • Experience with abrasive blasting, surface preparation and coating inspection.
  • Ability to interpret structural drawings and intumescent loading schedules.
  • Experience developing and managing ITPs and QA documentation.
  • Strong technical, communication and reporting skills.
  • Commercially aware approach to quality and compliance.
  • Willingness to obtain coatings inspection certification can be required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage project ITPs, QA reports and final QA documentation.
  • Review coating specifications, structural drawings and intumescent loading schedules.
  • Oversee surface preparation, blast profiles, environmental testing, WFT and DFT inspections.
  • Ensure protective and intumescent coating systems meet specifications and manufacturer requirements.
  • Maintain product batch traceability, inspection records and photographic QA documentation.
  • Inspect completed work and manage defects, remedial work and NCRs.
  • Liaise with clients, engineers, third-party inspectors and coating manufacturers.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant coating and passive fire standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve coating efficiency, material usage, quality and production processes.
  • Support and oversee workshop and site QA inspections.

About Us:

VIP Coatings is an Industrial Coatings Facility based in Rolleston, Canterbury. We’re committed to delivering a professional service within the coatings industry and supporting VIP Steel in a fast‑paced Structural steel process. We are looking for an experienced QA Manager to take ownership of quality, technical compliance and documentation across our workshop and site operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and manage project ITPs, QA reports and final QA documentation.
  • Review coating specifications, structural drawings and intumescent loading schedules.
  • Oversee surface preparation, blast profiles, environmental testing, WFT and DFT inspections.
  • Ensure protective and intumescent coating systems meet specifications and manufacturer requirements.
  • Maintain product batch traceability, inspection records and photographic QA documentation.
  • Inspect completed work and manage defects, remedial work and Non‑Conformance Reports (NCRs).
  • Liaise with clients, engineers, third‑party inspectors and coating manufacturers.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant coating and passive fire standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve coating efficiency, material usage, quality and production processes.
  • Support and oversee workshop and site QA inspections.
Requirements:
  • NACE / AMPP CIP Level 1 or 2, ACA qualification, or relevant industry experience.
  • Strong protective and/or intumescent coatings knowledge.
  • Experience with abrasive blasting, surface preparation and coating inspection.
  • Ability to interpret structural drawings and intumescent loading schedules.
  • Experience developing and managing ITPs and QA documentation.
  • Strong technical, communication and reporting skills.
  • A practical and commercially aware approach to quality and compliance.
  • Candidates with strong industry experience who are willing to obtain formal coatings inspection certification will also be considered.
