Job summary

Beca is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead and deliver multidisciplinary projects across engineering, infrastructure and buildings in the South Island and nationwide. Based in Christchurch or Dunedin, you will manage initiation through handover, build strong client relationships, apply governance and financial controls, and mentor junior team members within a 35-person PM team.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of demonstrated experience delivering engineering, infrastructure, buildings, or utilities projects, ideally within a consulting environment.
• Tertiary qualifications aligned to engineering, construction and/or project management.
• Experience in project and/or design management, project planning and delivery.
• Strong understanding of the local market business and operating environment.
• Bias for action and a passion for working with a broad range of stakeholders.
• Strong relationship-building and commercial judgement.
• Collaborative and innovative approach, with a good sense of humour.

Project Management role, working with a variety of Public and Private sector clients throughout the South Island and nationally Broad role with a variety of building and infrastructure engineering projects across multiple industries, working in team of 35 project and programme management professionals in the Southern region The Project Strategy and Delivery (PS&D) national team consists of over 180+ technical professionals, providing project management, programme advisory, and cost management services to clients. This is a unique opportunity to join the Beca Project and Programme team based in either Christchurch or Dunedin in a project management role that will see you leading projects and providing strategic advice to clients. You will lead and deliver projects from initiation and design through procurement, consenting, and into construction and handover. Together with our clients, we are tackling some of the most complex and impactful projects across the country, including critical infrastructure, Schools, Hospitals, Airports, and community projects. Our projects range from small-scale through to some of the region’s most ambitious building, industrial and infrastructure schemes. In this role, you will be applying your relationship‑building abilities, along with your excellent communication skills, connecting across all parts of Beca and with our broad range of clients.

Key role components include:

• Lead the delivery of complex, multidisciplinary projects from early planning stages to completion, ensuring alignment with strategic and operational goals
• Build and maintain strong client relationships by understanding their business needs and delivering tailored project management solutions
• Apply robust project governance, risk management, and financial controls to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality standards
• Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, confidently leading teams and influencing project outcomes
• Mentor and support junior team members, contributing to the development of capability and performance across the project team
• Use commercial insight and strategic thinking to solve complex challenges and deliver value to clients and the business
• Apply knowledge of NZS 391X suite of construction contracts.
• Experience acting as Engineer’s Representative / Contract Administrator ideal but not essential.
• Work with and lead design teams within our multi‑disciplinary structure

This role is best suited to candidates who have developed their project management capability within an engineering, infrastructure, utilities, or construction environment. We are looking for professionals who can confidently engage with technical design teams, understand engineering and project delivery challenges, and provide informed advice to clients throughout the project lifecycle. While strong project management expertise is essential, a background working on engineering projects will be critical to success in this role.

You will bring:

• 5–10 years of demonstrated experience delivering engineering, infrastructure, buildings, or utilities projects, ideally within a consulting environment
