Job summary

Beca invites an experienced project leadership professional to oversee major infrastructure and buildings projects in New Zealand, guiding them from initiation through handover. You will operate across Christchurch or Dunedin, delivering strategic advice and strong governance while aligning with client needs.

You will mentor teams, manage risk and budgets, and apply NZS 391X contract knowledge to ensure value for clients and the business in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of demonstrated experience in infrastructure, buildings, utilities environment.
  • Strong understanding of the local market business and operating environment.
  • Tertiary qualifications aligned to construction project management consulting.
  • Experience in design management, project planning and delivery, and strategic advice.
  • A bias for action and passion for working with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and commercial judgement.
  • A collaborative and innovative approach with a good sense of humour.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of complex, multidisciplinary projects from early planning stages to completion.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships by understanding business needs and delivering tailored PM solutions.
  • Apply robust governance, risk management, and financial controls to meet time, budget, and quality goals.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, guiding teams and influencing outcomes.
  • Mentor and support junior team members to develop capability and performance.
  • Use commercial insight and strategic thinking to solve challenges and deliver client value.
  • Apply NZS 391X contracts knowledge including Engineer's Representative/Contract Administrator experience.

Play a key project delivery and leadership role in the South Island across the buildings and infrastructure project management field, where you will be a trusted advisor and delivery practitioner.

This is a unique opportunity to join the Beca Project and Programme team based in either Christchurch or Dunedin, providing strategic advice and leadership across project management. You will lead projects from initiation and design through procurement, consenting, and into construction and handover. Together with our clients, we are tackling some of the most complex and impactful projects across the country, including critical infrastructure (including water), Schools, Hospitals, Airports, including iconic kiwi landmarks and community projects. Our projects range from small-scale through to some of the region's most ambitious building, industrial and infrastructure schemes.

In this role, you will be applying your relationship-building abilities, along with your great communication skills, connecting across all parts of Beca and with our broad range of clients. Key role components include:

  • Lead the delivery of complex, multidisciplinary projects from early planning stages to completion, ensuring alignment with strategic and operational goals
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships by understanding their business needs and delivering tailored project management solutions
  • Apply robust project governance, risk management, and financial controls to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality standards
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, confidently leading teams and influencing project outcomes
  • Mentor and support junior team members, contributing to the development of capability and performance across the project team
  • Use commercial insight and strategic thinking to solve complex challenges and deliver value to clients and the business
  • Apply a knowledge of NZS 391X suite of construction contracts including experience acting as Engineer's Representative / Contract Administrator
