Job summary

Taylor Construction in Auckland is seeking a proactive Project Manager to lead daily operations, coordinate site teams, and drive projects safely and to the highest standards. You will manage subcontractors, suppliers, and clients, ensuring QA compliance, scheduling, and health and safety are at the forefront while mentoring site staff and delivering on time and budget.

This hands-on leadership role requires excellent communication, problem-solving, and a practical knowledge of construction

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of building experience.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously with strong planning abilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Project and MS Office for project planning and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduling: create and manage project schedules.
  • Managing Site Managers with weekly action points and meetings.
  • Quality Assurance: ensure QA is checked and signed off.
  • Client relations: manage commercial relationships and weekly progress reports.
  • Health and Safety: support safety processes and hazard assessments.
  • Meetings: run weekly updates with the Senior Project Manager.

About the job

We’re looking for a proactive and experienced Project Manager to take charge of daily operations and drive projects to success, safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands‑on leader with technical know‑how, strong communication skills, and a genuine commitment to making sure everyone goes home safe, every day.

We’re after someone with a positive, can‑do attitude and a “make it happen” mindset. A natural problem‑solver who takes ownership, gets things done, and inspires others to do the same.

In this role, you’ll play a key part in coordinating on‑site activities, managing contractors and resources, and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and industry best practices. You’ll help create a site culture where teamwork, safety, and quality come first and where people take pride in getting the job done right.

Key Responsibilities
Scheduling

Creating project scheduling to be approved by the Senior Project Manager/Operations Manager.

Managing of approved project schedule with a deadline, success measured by days under/over.

Correspondence with subtrades, suppliers, labour, consultants, and council.

Raise and track Purchase Orders (POs) to ensure they are completed accurately and in full, following the appropriate approval process.

Managing Site Managers

Issuing weekly action points and objectives to Site Managers.

Weekly meetings with Site Managers to ensure weekly action points and objectives are being met.

Quality Assurance

Ensuring all QA is checked and inspected, and signed off by the Project Manager.

Ensuring all subtrades, suppliers, and labour adhere to Taylor Constructions' QA processes.

Client Relations

Managing the commercial relationship with our clients.

Communication with our clients according to Taylor Constructions Communication Policy, e.g., weekly reports on progress and upcoming weekly schedules and or selections required, variation processes.

Health and Safety

Supporting our Health and Safety Advisor to ensure safe sites and processes, e.g., notifying of accidents, near misses and organising Toolbox talks.

Ensure site safety processes are followed.

Work with the H&S Manager to assess hazards for the site (e.g., overhead lines, excavations over 1.5m deep) and process accordingly.

Meetings

Weekly meetings with a Senior Project Manager with a set agenda as below.

Project progress updates.

Project payment claims are complete.

Project variations and issues identified.

Skills, Experience & Education

Managing people and relationships.

Minimum of 5 years of building experience.

Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously with excellent planning abilities.

Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.

Ability to manage teams and build strong stakeholder relationships.

Hands‑on and practical with up‑to‑date knowledge of construction technologies.

Experience managing subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants.

Familiarity with Acuite or similar safety/documentation platforms.

Industry‑related qualifications or experience are advantageous.

Full Class 1 New Zealand driver’s licence.

Proficiency in Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office Suite for project planning and reporting.

Experience in project management, quality control, and safety compliance.

Familiarity with cross‑department collaboration.

Strategic thinker with growing leadership and mentoring capability.
