Project Manager – Architectural Metalwork

Asset Engineering Ltd | Hamilton, Waikato

About the Role

Asset Engineering is expanding into the Waikato, and we're looking for an experienced Project Manager to help establish and grow our Hamilton branch.

This role is best suited to someone with a practical engineering background who understands fabrication and installation—not just project management. While your primary responsibility will be coordinating projects from handover through to completion, we're looking for someone who understands how metalwork is fabricated, installed and delivered on site.

You'll work closely with our QS, workshop and installation teams to ensure projects are well planned, well communicated and delivered to a high standard.

Our work includes handrails, balustrades, aluminium screens, louvres, canopies, gates and bespoke architectural metalwork across commercial construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage projects from handover through to completion.
  • Review construction and shop drawings.
  • Coordinate with the QS on procurement and project planning.
  • Schedule workshop fabrication and site installation activities.
  • Liaise with clients, builders, architects and site managers.
  • Carry out site visits to monitor progress and assist with problem solving.
  • Coordinate workshop and site teams to ensure projects run smoothly.
  • Carry out QA inspections and ensure a high standard of workmanship.
  • Resolve practical site and fabrication issues as they arise.
  • Support the team to deliver projects safely, efficiently and on programme.

About You

We're looking for someone who enjoys being involved in the practical side of engineering, not just managing paperwork.

Ideally you'll have:

  • A background in architectural metalwork, fabrication, installation or general engineering.
  • Experience leading projects or supervising workshop/site teams.
  • A practical understanding of fabrication processes and installation sequencing.
  • The ability to read and interpret construction and shop drawings.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Confidence dealing with clients and builders.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach.
  • Full NZ Driver Licence.

This role would suit an experienced Leading Hand, Foreman, Site Supervisor, Installer or Project Manager who enjoys staying connected to the workshop and site rather than being office-based full time.
