Job summary

Gunn Talent in Auckland leads a partnership with a well-established New Zealand joinery business to recruit an experienced Project Manager who can read drawings, manage commercial contracts, and drive projects from design through to completion.

You'll manage about five projects concurrently, from door projects to major commercial façades up to $5 million, coordinating design, procurement, production, installers and subcontractors, while protecting margins and building strong client relationships.

We’re partnering with a well-established and growing New Zealand joinery business delivering commercial windows, doors and wider façade solutions across some of New Zealand’s leading construction projects.

We’re looking for an experienced Project Manager who understands construction beyond just one product category - someone who can read drawings, navigate commercial contracts, manage people and resources, protect project margins and confidently drive projects from design through to completion.

About the role

You’ll manage around five projects concurrently, ranging from individual door projects through to major commercial projects valued at up to $5 million.

You’ll be responsible for:

• Managing projects from design and shop drawings through to delivery, installation and completion
• Coordinating design, procurement, production, installers and subcontractors
• Managing wider façade and building-envelope aspects beyond simply windows and doors
• Reading drawings, identifying design issues and developing practical solutions
• Understanding commercial contracts, managing risk and protecting project margin
• Managing variations and ensuring they are properly documented and recovered
• Working closely with QSs and internal teams to manage costs, labour and procurement
• Managing site measures, programmes and technical requirements
• Building strong relationships with clients, contractors, consultants and internal stakeholders
• Identifying issues early, taking initiative and driving solutions

About you

We’re looking for someone with strong construction and project delivery experience - ideally 10+ years- although we’re open to exceptional candidates with the right capability and attitude.

Your background could be in:

• Commercial joinery
• Façade or cladding
• Building envelope
• Main contracting, particularly where you’ve managed façade or specialist packages

You’ll also bring:

• Strong commercial contract and project management experience
• The ability to confidently interpret architectural and construction drawings
• Strong understanding of project margin, procurement, labour and variations
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• A proactive, solutions-focused approach

A QS, Project Management or Construction Management qualification would be advantageous, but isn’t essential.
