Job summary

BGIS is seeking an experienced Regional Project Manager to lead residential construction projects across Hawke’s Bay, Central Hawke’s Bay, and Gisborne. You will oversee planning, delivery, and commercial performance while coordinating BGIS teams, subcontractors, and clients to deliver quality outcomes for New Zealand communities.

Qualifications

• NZ contracts experience (NZS 3910, NZS 3604).
• Delivery of construction projects in live environments.
• Knowledge of NZ building compliance and Health & Safety rules.
• Strong commercial sense with contract admin/finance skills.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication.
• Ability to manage multiple regional projects and teams.
• Hold a valid NZ Driver Licence.
• Strong English and numeracy skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage residential construction, refurbishment, and maintenance projects from planning to completion.
• Deliver projects safely, on time, within budget and to contract milestones.
• Oversee procurement, subcontractors, resources, and critical-path activities.
• Monitor budgets, forecasting, variations, and WIP to protect profitability.
• Ensure quality, standards, and regulatory compliance for projects.
• Build and maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders.
• Lead internal teams, driving accountability, productivity, safety and quality.
• Promote continuous improvement and best-practice project management across the region.
• Support tendering, pricing reviews, and future opportunities.
• Ensure adherence to Health & Safety legislation and company policies.

Purpose of the Role

BGIS is seeking an experienced Regional Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of residential construction, refurbishment, and upgrade projects across the Hawke’s Bay, Central Hawke’s Bay, and Gisborne regions. Projects typically range from $10,000 to $1 million in value, with most sitting between $100,000 and $500,000.

Reporting directly to the Contract Manager - North Island, you will oversee project planning, delivery, commercial performance, stakeholder engagement, and regional project operations. Working closely with BGIS self-perform teams, subcontractors, and clients, you will play a key role in delivering quality project outcomes that positively impact communities across New Zealand.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage residential construction, refurbishment, and maintenance projects from planning through to completion.
• Deliver projects safely, on time, within budget, and in line with contractual requirements and project milestones.
• Oversee procurement, subcontractor performance, project resources, and critical path activities.
• Monitor project budgets, forecasting, variations, WIP, and commercial risks to maintain profitability.
• Ensure projects meet required quality standards, specifications, and compliance obligations.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, tenants, schools, councils, rail operators, consultants, and community stakeholders.
• Lead and mentor internal teams while driving accountability, productivity, safety, and quality performance.
• Promote continuous improvement, operational efficiency, and best-practice project management standards across the region.
• Support tendering, pricing reviews, and identification of future project opportunities.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation, company policies, and industry regulations.

Education, Experience & Skills Essential

• Strong understanding of New Zealand construction contracts, including NZS 3910 and NZS 3604.
• Proven experience delivering construction projects within live operational environments.
• Knowledge of NZ building compliance requirements, Health & Safety legislation, and government procurement processes.
• Strong commercial acumen with experience in contract administration and financial management.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and relationship management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and regional delivery teams simultaneously.
• Full New Zealand Driver Licence.
• Strong English communication and numeracy skills.

Desirable

• Trade qualification or Project Management qualification.
• Residential construction and carpentry experience.
• Experience with project management systems, forecasting, and reporting tools.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, drawings, and specifications.
• Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Workplace Flexibility

This role will be based from our Napier office, with flexibility in working hours and travel throughout Hawke’s Bay, Central Hawke’s Bay, Gisborne, Palmerston North, and occasional visits to our Wellington office as required.
