Job summary

BGIS is seeking an experienced Trade Quality Advisor to support the technical quality of maintenance delivery across the Te Mahi Ngātahi contract in New Zealand. Reporting to the Trade Quality Manager, you will work with BGIS teams, trade partners, subcontractors and Kāinga Ora to ensure maintenance work meets quality standards and contractual requirements.

Qualifications

Purpose of the Role

BGIS is seeking an experienced Trade Quality Advisor to support the technical quality of maintenance delivery across the Te Mahi Ngātahi contract. Reporting to the Trade Quality Manager, you will work closely with BGIS operational and quality teams, trade partners, subcontractors, suppliers, and Kāinga Ora to ensure maintenance work meets the required quality standards, business assurance requirements, management documents, and Schedule of Rates coding requirements. This is a hands-on role that includes completing on-site quality assurance checks, identifying delivery risks and quality trends, supporting subcontractor capability, and assisting with the education and resolution of Corrective Action Requests. Regular regional travel, including both day and overnight trips, is an important part of the position. The ideal candidate will be practical, organised, and confident working with a range of stakeholders. You will bring strong communication and relationship-building skills, sound judgement, attention to detail, and a genuine commitment to improving the quality of homes for whānau in our communities.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete on-site quality assurance checks and support the delivery of responsive and planned maintenance programmes.
• Help ensure maintenance work meets Kāinga Ora standards, relevant management documents, business assurance requirements, and Schedule of Rates coding requirements.
• Identify quality trends and risk areas through Corrective Action Request data, including over-scoping, under-scoping, and trade failures.
• Support the education, management, and resolution of Corrective Action Requests.
• Assist with maintaining a capable and appropriately resourced subcontractor network.
• Support subcontractor onboarding, including documentation collection, compliance checks, and system access.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, customers, and internal BGIS teams.
• Respond to subcontractor queries by providing practical guidance or escalating matters when appropriate.
• Investigate service recovery matters relating to quality and follow up on corrective actions to reduce the risk of recurrence.
• Track and report delivery against key performance indicators, assisting with data preparation and operational insights.
• Support subcontractor compliance with health and safety standards and legislative requirements.
• Monitor and follow up on required certifications, documentation, and training records.
• Support subcontractors with the use of BGIS technology platforms, including live reporting requirements.
• Keep employees, trades, and subcontractors informed of relevant reference materials, specifications, and regulatory changes.
• Support the induction of new starters and respond to training requests from management.
• Prepare weekly progress reporting for the trade and compliance team.
• Contribute to stakeholder communications, including the bi-monthly newsletter.
• Travel to regional locations to support on-site quality assurance activity and regional delivery teams.

Education, Experience & Skills

• At least three years of practical experience in a similar position.
• Strong administration and coordination skills, with excellent attention to detail.
• Experience working with external stakeholders, suppliers, or subcontractors, preferably within a trade, maintenance, facilities management, or service delivery environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build productive working relationships with different stakeholders.
• Ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks, projects, and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and other business systems.
• Sound business acumen and a practical approach to problem-solving.
• Ability to work effectively through ambiguity, operational change, and competing priorities.
• Willingness and ability to undertake regular regional travel, including overnight travel.

Desirable

• A qualification or solid practical experience in quality management, building or facilities maintenance, construction, or a related trade.
• Good knowledge of the trades included within BGIS's service offering.
• Experience with quality assurance inspections or compliance monitoring.
• Experience supporting health and safety requirements within an operational or trade environment.
• Previous experience supporting operational, maintenance, or project delivery teams.
• Experience using Schedule of Rates coding systems or similar contract pricing and coding frameworks.
• Experience supporting subcontractor performance, capability development, or onboarding.
• Understanding of corrective action processes and quality-related service recovery.
