Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children has a commitment to putting tamariki and rangatahi at the heart of what we do. In our work, we aim to demonstrate these values:

  • We put Tamariki first
  • We believe Aroha is vital
  • We respect the Mana of people
  • We are Tika and Pono
  • We value Whakapapa
  • We recognise that Oranga is a journey

We are committed to ensuring that New Zealand is the best place in the world to be a child. We are also committed to ensuring Oranga Tamariki partners with hapťu, iwi and Māori organisations to find appropriate solutions for tamariki in need.

Mō te tšnga | About the role

We are looking for a highly capable and experienced Project Coordinator to support Targeted Practice Enhancements (TPE), a key workstream within the Frontline Technology Systems Upgrade (FTSU) Programme.

This is a critical role within one of Oranga Tamariki's largest transformation programmes. Working across both technical and business change initiatives, you will provide comprehensive coordination support while proactively driving delivery activities, governance processes, planning, reporting, financial administration, risk management and stakeholder engagement.

This role requires someone who can confidently anticipate needs, identify issues early, and take ownership for progressing work with minimal direction. We are looking for a highly organised and delivery-focused professional who brings exceptional initiative, sound judgement, and the ability to operate effectively in a complex and fast-moving environment.

Targeted Practice Enhancements (TPE) is a key workstream within the Frontline Technology Systems Upgrade (FTSU) programme, one of Oranga Tamariki's largest transformation initiatives. TPE delivers targeted improvements that support frontline practice while FTSU progresses toward implementation.

The work focuses on improving critical capabilities, addressing operational pain points, reducing risk, and delivering immediate and enduring value for tamariki, rangatahi, whānau, caregivers, partners and communities.

Operating within the FTSU governance framework, TPE enables the delivery of business-led initiatives that align with future-state architecture and strategic objectives. The role offers an opportunity to contribute to meaningful change by helping deliver practical improvements today while supporting the longer-term transformation of frontline services.

Ngā pšumanawatanga ʼnŁ | What you will bring
  • Atleast five years' experience in project coordination, programme coordination or project delivery roles within complex environments.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting large-scale technology, digital transformation or organisational change initiatives.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Advanced experience maintaining delivery plans, RAID registers, governance documentation, action logs, reporting packs and project financial administration.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting governance forums, preparing executive and decision-support documentation, tracking actions and ensuring effective follow-through on governance decisions.
  • Strong understanding of project and programme delivery disciplines, including governance, risk and dependency management across multiple workstreams, projects and business initiatives.
  • Highly developed relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently, take initiative, solve problems and deliver results in complex and fast-paced environments.
  • Experience working across both technical and business change workstreams.
  • Experience supporting project financial management, including forecasting, purchase orders, invoicing, budget tracking and reporting.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, Planner and related collaboration tools.
  • An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a commitment to working in culturally responsive ways, including an appreciation of te Ao Māori and Pacific perspectives.

We are looking for someone who thrives on creating order from complexity, builds momentum without waiting to be directed, and takes genuine ownership for ensuring work gets done. You will be confident working with senior leaders, comfortable navigating ambiguity, and known for your ability to anticipate what is needed before being asked.

Nŏu te rourou | What's in it for you
