Job description

The opportunity

Beca is an industry leader in the establishment and delivery of complex infrastructure programmes that shape communities and deliver outcomes of national significance. Programme management at Beca is about helping clients translate strategic ambitions into real-world outcomes, creating lasting benefits for communities, customers and stakeholders. Our programme teams support multi-project portfolios ranging from tens of millions to several billion dollars across transport, water, energy, defence and social infrastructure sectors. Our nationwide programme offering continues to grow and we are looking for experienced programme management professionals with around 5–10 years’ experience to join our teams, based in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch.

You will work alongside major infrastructure and government clients, programme leaders and multidisciplinary teams to initiate, establish and deliver complex infrastructure programmes. You will help create clarity from ambiguity, set programmes up for successful delivery, align diverse stakeholders and maintain alignment to intended outcomes across the programme lifecycle. You will increasingly take ownership of client relationships, coach emerging practitioners and contribute to the growth of our programme management capability.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • You may lead smaller programmes directly, manage major workstreams within nationally significant programmes, or act as a trusted advisor to programme sponsors and programme directors.
  • Support in defining programme outcomes, scope, benefits and success measures that align with client strategy and provide a clear direction for delivery.
  • Establishing governance, decision rights, controls, tolerances and assurance processes that create accountability and support timely, informed decisions.
  • Integrating programme plans, schedules, budgets, risks, dependencies and performance information to provide clear insight and enable effective prioritisation and decision‑making.
  • Developing practical programme delivery approaches, resource plans and procurement strategies that reflect client priorities, constraints and market conditions.
  • Building trusted relationships with sponsors, governance groups, delivery partners and stakeholders by understanding their interests, communicating openly and creating alignment around programme outcomes.
  • Supporting organisational readiness, transition and benefits realisation so programme outputs are adopted and deliver lasting value.
About you

You will bring around 5–10 years’ experience in project or programme management, including meaningful involvement in establishing or delivering complex infrastructure programmes with multiple projects, stakeholders, interfaces and delivery constraints. You may already be operating as a Programme Manager, undertaking a key role within a PMO, or be an experienced Project Manager ready to apply strong delivery foundations with a broader strategic and systems-focused mindset.

You can demonstrate capability across several of the following areas:

  • defining programme outcomes and scope
  • programme planning and integrated delivery
  • supporting governance anddecision-making groups with reporting, controls and risk assessments
  • stakeholder analysis and engagement
  • resource, investment or procurement planning
  • benefits realisation or organisational readiness

You are a clear communicator and collaborative leader who builds trust, connects detail to the bigger picture, navigates ambiguity and adapts your approach to different programme contexts. Experience in a consulting, client-side, contractor or public‑sector infrastructure environment is valued, together with a relevant tertiary or recognised project/programme management qualification.
