Big Buddy Mentoring Trust – Auckland, North Island

Help boys feel connected in a world that needs them

At Big Buddy, we believe no boy should feel alone. For more than 28 years, we've matched boys without a dad in their lives with positive male mentors who show up, build trust, and make a lasting difference. We've supported thousands of boys, men, and whānau with our programmes, community building, and engagement events.

About the role

As our Programme & Events Partner, you'll be at the heart of connecting boys, whānau, mentors, schools and community partners to create life-changing mentoring relationships.

You'll take ownership of key parts of our mentoring programmes, helping ensure every boy, volunteer and family has an outstanding experience from first contact through to programme completion and beyond.

Working 28-32 hours per week (0.7-0.8 FTE) spread over 3-4 days and based at our Head Office in Greenlane, you'll work closely with our programme and partnerships teams and will:

Lead the recruitment, onboarding and matching of boys, whānau and volunteer mentors.

Build strong relationships with schools, community organisations and referral partners.

Coordinate and support our Group and One-to-One mentoring programmes.

Organise volunteer training, community events and engagement activities.

Manage programme logistics, communications and operational delivery.

Support programme evaluation, reporting and continuous improvement.

Contribute to marketing and community engagement initiatives.

Help create resources and systems that strengthen our impact and scalability.

This is a role for someone who enjoys balancing people, process and purpose.

About you

You're equally comfortable building relationships and managing the details that make great programmes happen.

Ideally, you'll bring:

Strong relationship-building and communication skills.

Excellent organisation and project coordination capability.

Confidence working independently and taking ownership.

Experience in community development, youth work, education, social services, events, partnerships or programme delivery.

Strong Microsoft 365 and CRM skills.

An ability to interpret information, evaluate outcomes and identify improvements.

A genuine alignment with Big Buddy's mission and values.

A full NZ driver's licence and access to a vehicle.

Flexibility for occasional evening or weekend events.

Why join Big Buddy?

This is an opportunity to do meaningful work alongside a passionate team committed to helping boys thrive.

A role with genuine purpose and visible community impact.

Significant autonomy and ownership.

Professional development and growth opportunities.

Supportive and values-led leadership.

Flexible and hybrid working arrangements.

A positive team culture that genuinely values work-life balance.

Convenient Greenlane location with parking and public transport access.

If you're motivated by purpose, relationships and community impact, we'd love to hear from you.

Note that Big Buddy is committed to Child Protection and the safeguarding of children and young people in our care. It is our expectation that all staff will operate in a way that reflects this intent and the intent of the Children's Act (2014) to improve the well-being of vulnerable children. As a requirement, appointment to this role will be subject to safety checks.
