Job summary

Mana Tāhuna Charitable Trust in Tāhuna (Queenstown) is seeking a Kaimahi Rangatahi / Youth Worker to directly support rangatahi wellbeing, development, and connection to positive opportunities within the community. The role focuses on engagement, mentoring, programme facilitation, and creating safe spaces for rangatahi to grow, learn, and thrive.

The position involves delivering programmes, events, and initiatives across the Queenstown Lakes and Central Otago region, including travel to Wānaka,

Qualifications

• Experience working with rangatahi or young people in community, education, youth development, or mental health support settings.
• An understanding of kaupapa Māori values and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
• The ability to build positive relationships and engage effectively with rangatahi.
• An awareness of rangatahi mental health and wellbeing, and the ability to provide appropriate support, encouragement, and referrals when needed.
• Confidence facilitating groups, activities, or programmes.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of rangatahi initiatives.

Mana Tāhuna is a kaupapa Māori trust based in Tāhuna (Queenstown), Aotearoa. We deliver a range of services across five core pou: Health and Social Services, Rangatahi Services, Employment and Training, Te Ao Māori, and Mahi Taiao.

Our Rangatahi Services focus on empowering young people to develop confidence, leadership, cultural identity, and strong connections with their communities.

As a Kaimahi Rangatahi / Youth Worker, you will work directly with rangatahi to support their wellbeing, development, and connection to positive opportunities within the community.

This role focuses on engagement, mentoring, programme facilitation, and creating safe spaces for rangatahi to grow, learn, and thrive.

The role will involve delivering programmes, events, and initiatives across the Queenstown Lakes and Central Otago region, including travel to Wānaka, Alexandra, and Cromwell.

You will:

Build positive and trusting relationships with rangatahi

Facilitate youth programmes, activities, and workshops

Support rangatahi to build confidence, leadership, and life skills

Provide mentoring and guidance to rangatahi where needed

Create safe and inclusive environments where rangatahi feel supported and valued

Work collaboratively with whānau, schools, community organisations, and partners

Support rangatahi participation in cultural, recreational, and community initiatives

Travel to Wānaka, Alexandra, and Cromwell to deliver programmes and engage with rangatahi

Maintain accurate programme records and contribute to reporting and programme evaluation

Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of rangatahi initiatives

We are looking for someone passionate about working with rangatahi and committed to strengthening young people and their communities. You will understand the importance of supporting the holistic wellbeing of rangatahi, including their cultural, social, and mental wellbeing.

You will bring:

Experience working with rangatahi or young people in community, education, youth development, or mental health support settings

An understanding of kaupapa Māori values and Te Tiriti o Waitangi

The ability to build positive relationships and engage effectively with rangatahi

An awareness of rangatahi mental health and wellbeing, and the ability to provide appropriate support, encouragement, and referrals when needed

Confidence facilitating groups, activities, or programmes

Strong communication and relationship-building skills

Cultural competence and the ability to engage with diverse communities

Good organisational skills and the ability to work independently

A full New Zealand driver’s licence

Desirable (but not essential):

Qualification in youth work, social services, education, community development, or mental health support

Experience delivering youth programmes or mentoring young people

First Aid certification

Knowledge of the Queenstown Lakes and Central Otago communities
