Job summary

Visy Glass Auckland is seeking a Process Engineer for a full-time permanent position on a rotating 12-hour shift pattern (2 days/2 nights, 4 days off). The role is primarily sole charge in the Batch and Furnace area, reporting to the Batch and Furnace Manager.

You’ll run the Batch House, operate 3 furnaces, and monitor plant services after hours, handling breakdowns with strong problem-solving skills. You will be trained on equipment and control systems, while adapting to multiple operating

• Minimum 4 years’ post-trade experience in manufacturing.
• Demonstrated fault-finding and diagnostics abilities.
• Ability to work under urgency and pressure while maintaining high standards.
• Willingness to work overtime and be on-call.

Responsibilities

• Control and operate batching from Batch House to Furnace.
• Operate furnaces and maintain housekeeping around furnaces.
• Monitor plant services after hours and weekends for breakdowns.
• Assist with colour-change responsibilities and night-shift colour checks.
• Attend breakdowns and perform problem solving; request help when required.
• Communicate with internal support and external agencies (e.g., fire department, Auckland Council).
• Ensure adherence to Health, Safety and Environmental policies at all times.

The Opportunity:

As a Process Engineer, you will work in a full-time permanent role, doing 12-hour shifts on a rotating roster - 2 days/2 nights, 4 days off at our Visy Glass, Penrose, Auckland Site. This is primarily a sole charge position with a high degree of responsibility. Reporting to the Batch and Furnace Manager, you will work in the Batch and Furnace area of our manufacturing operations and will play a critical role to production and will be responsible for maintaining homogenous glass supply to the forehearths.

This is a diverse role, ranging from operating the Batch House, operating the 3 Furnaces, to monitoring Plant Services after hours. It’s a hands‑on role, where you will need to attend to breakdowns and use your problem‑solving abilities to rectify issues. You will be trained on various pieces of equipment and control systems to do with our Batching and Furnace operation, however, there are multiple operating systems, so you will need to be adaptable and proficient in computers. In summary, your key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

• Control and operation of the Batching process, from the Batch House to the Furnace.
• Control and operation of the furnaces and housekeeping around the furnaces.
• Monitoring and attending breakdowns of Plant services after hours and weekends.
• Assisting with Colour change responsibilities and conduct colour checks on night shifts.
• Attending breakdowns and problem solving. Requesting assistance if required.
• Communicating with support departments internally, as well as external agencies such as the fire department and the Auckland Council.
• Maintain and ensure all Health and Safety policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.

What you will bring to the team:

As our new Process Engineer, you will have a minimum of 4 years’ post trade experience gained from working within a similar role in a manufacturing environment (medium or a heavy industrial environment). You’ll have an exceptional ability for fault finding and diagnostics, with the ability to work under urgency and pressure while maintaining high standards. Along with the following:

• Analytical and problem-solving skills - You will have good attention to detail and an eye for accuracy, with a focus on Continuous Improvement (Lean).
• Proven ability to work in a physically demanding and fast paced environment.
• Processes a strong focus on Health, Safety and Environmental practices.
• The Process Engineers team is a small group of four, with a shared shift relief, so the successful candidate needs to be willing and be able to do overtime shifts & callouts.
