Job summary

Napier City Council's Napier Libraries is seeking a part-time Customer Service Librarian on a fixed-term basis to support inquiries, tech assistance, and program delivery across Napier and Taradale. You will help patrons, assist with shelving and cash handling, and contribute to community reading and digital literacy initiatives.

The role is 25 hours per week, Sunday to Thursday, across Napier and Taradale libraries.

Qualifications

• Five years’ experience delivering excellent customer service and helping people find information, resources, and support.
• Confident using digital tools and technology, with the ability to assist others with basic tech enquiries.
• Strong attention to detail, well-developed organisational skills, and a proactive, solutions-focused mindset.
• Familiar with databases, ideally a Library Management System.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality customer service across all library functions, supporting users with enquiries, technology, and access to services.
• Support the day-to-day operations of the library, including shelving, cash handling, and maintaining the presentation of collections.
• Assist in the delivery of library programmes and community outreach initiatives, including reading programmes and digital literacy sessions.
• Work collaboratively across Napier and Taradale branches as part of a dedicated team focused on continuous improvement and community engagement.
