Job summary

Napier City Council’s Napier Libraries is seeking a part-time Customer Service Librarian on a fixed-term basis to deliver high-quality service, assist with enquiries, tech support, and children's activities.

Based across Napier and Taradale libraries, the role runs Sunday to Thursday for 25 hours per week, for 18 months. The annual salary is 58,047 to 64,869 pro rata including KiwiSaver.

Qualifications

• Five years’ experience delivering excellent customer service and helping people find information, resources, and support.
• Confident using digital tools and technology, with the ability to assist others with basic tech enquiries.
• Strong attention to detail, well‑developed organisational skills, and a proactive, solutions‑focused mindset.
• Familiar with databases, ideally a Library Management System.
• This is an 18-month fixed term opportunity, working 25 hours per week Sunday - Thursday.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality customer service across all library functions, supporting users with enquiries, technology, and access to services.
• Support the day-to-day operations of the library, including shelving, cash handling, and maintaining the presentation of collections.
• Assist in the delivery of library programmes and community outreach initiatives, including reading programmes and digital literacy sessions.
• Work collaboratively across Napier and Taradale branches as part of a dedicated team focused on continuous improvement and community engagement.
