Job summary

Napier City Council is seeking a part-time Customer Service Librarian for an 18-month fixed term, 25 hours per week across Napier and Taradale libraries. You will deliver high-quality customer support, assist with enquiries, tech help, shelving, and programmes, while contributing to community engagement and digital literacy initiatives.

The role requires five years of customer service experience, strong organisational skills, and comfort with Library Management Systems.

Qualifications

• Five years' experience delivering excellent customer service and helping people find information, resources, and support.
• Confident using digital tools and technology, with the ability to assist others with basic tech enquiries.
• Strong attention to detail, well-developed organisational skills, and a proactive, solutions-focused mindset.
• Familiar with databases, ideally a Library Management System.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality customer service across all library functions, supporting users with enquiries, technology, and access to services.
• Support the day-to-day operations of the library, including shelving, cash handling, and maintaining the presentation of collections.
• Assist in the delivery of library programmes and community outreach initiatives, including reading programmes and digital literacy sessions.
• Work collaboratively across Napier and Taradale branches as part of a dedicated team focused on continuous improvement and community engagement.
