Job summary

sKids is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Programme Manager for Sacred Heart Cathedral School in Wellington. This part-time role supports homework and learning while leading engaging activities after school. You will supervise children, assist with planning and delivery of arts, sports and games, and step in as 2IC when needed.

Qualifications

• Experience working with groups of children in OSCAR programmes, childcare, coaching, teaching, camps, youth work, or similar.
• Ability to step into a leadership role when required and use initiative to make decisions.
• Experience supporting children's learning, homework, or educational activities.
• Strong communication with children, parents, caregivers, and school staff.
• Legally eligible to work in New Zealand.

Responsibilities

• Support the Programme Manager in the day-to-day running of the sKids programme, ensuring smooth, safe, and well-organised operations.
• Act as the programme's Second-in-Charge (2IC), confidently leading sessions when the Programme Manager is away.
• Build positive relationships with Sacred Heart Cathedral School staff and support the school's commitment to high academic achievement.
• Assist children with homework and learning activities, helping create a positive and encouraging environment for academic success.
• Supervise and engage groups of children, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable programme for all participants.
• Plan and deliver structured activities including arts and crafts, sports, games, challenges, and special events.
• Support children to develop confidence, resilience, and positive social skills through meaningful participation and play.
• Use positive behaviour guidance strategies to manage challenging situations and maintain a respectful programme culture.
• Support and mentor Programme Assistants on shift, helping activities run smoothly and expectations are consistently met.
• Build strong relationships with parents, caregivers, and school staff through friendly and professional communication.
• Assist with programme set-up, resource preparation, and pack-down to ensure sessions run seamlessly.
