Job summary

Painting + is seeking a Painter to join our Tauranga team. You will prepare surfaces, apply paint and protective finishes on residential and commercial projects, ensuring work meets quality standards, project specifications, and health and safety requirements.

Minimum of 3 years' painting experience with the ability to read technical drawings, mix paints and finishes, and apply coatings using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.

• Ability to prepare surfaces, mix paints and finishes, and apply coatings to a high standard.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and finishing specifications.
• Knowledge of painting standards and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Prepares surfaces by removing old paint and filling holes and cracks.
• Applies plaster, filler and jointing compounds to surfaces.
• Sands and smooths surfaces to achieve an even finish.
• Selects and mixes paints, stains and coatings for the project.
• Applies paint, varnish and finishes using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
• Sands between coats and inspects finished work for quality.
• Consults with clients or supervisors on colour schemes and finishes.
• Estimates time and cost for painting work.
• Operates and maintains painting tools safely.
• Keeps work area clean, safe, and organized.
• Works with supervisors and trades to meet deadlines.
• Follows health, safety, and company policies at all times.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Painting + is seeking a Painter to join our team in Tauranga, Bay of Plenty. You will be responsible for preparing surfaces and applying paint and other protective finishes on residential and commercial projects, while ensuring all work meets quality standards, project specifications, and health and safety requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepares surfaces by removing old paint and filling holes and cracks, and covers surfaces with drop cloths or masking tape to protect surrounding areas.
• Applies plaster, filler and jointing compounds to walls and ceilings to prepare surfaces for painting.
• Sands and smooths plastered and stopped surfaces to achieve an even finish prior to painting.
• Selects and mixes paints, stains and other coatings to achieve the required colour and finish.
• Applies paint, varnish and other finishes to surfaces using brushes, rollers and spray equipment.
• Smooths and sands surfaces between coats and inspects finished work to ensure it meets specifications.
• Consults with clients or supervisors on colour schemes and finishes, and estimates the cost and time required for painting work.
• Operates and maintains painting tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
• Maintains a clean, safe, and organised work area.
• Works closely with supervisors and other trades to meet project deadlines.
• Complies with all health, safety, and company policies at all times.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• Minimum of 3 years' relevant painting experience with verifiable employment records.
• Ability to prepare surfaces, mix paints and finishes, and apply coatings to a high standard using brushes, rollers and spray equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and finishing specifications.
• Knowledge of relevant painting standards, safety procedures, and quality requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality workmanship.

Preferred (not essential)

• Experience with solid plastering, plasterboard stopping, or texture coating.
• Full NZ driver's licence.
