Job summary

Jora New Zealand is seeking a skilled Painter to prepare surfaces, apply paints and coatings, and deliver high-quality finishes across residential, commercial, and industrial projects.

The role requires knowledge of surface preparation techniques, paint products, and application methods, with 2+ years of relevant experience or NZQF Level 4 qualification. A valid driver’s license is desirable, and candidates must work well in a team and independently.

Qualifications

  • NZQF Level 4 qualification or 2+ years of painting experience.
  • Solid knowledge of surface prep techniques and coatings.
  • Experience using painting tools, spray equipment, and access equipment safely.
  • Ability to read and interpret job specs.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare interior and exterior surfaces by cleaning, sanding, filling cracks and holes, and removing old paint or wallpaper.
  • Select and prepare paints, stains, varnishes, and other coating materials to achieve the desired finish.
  • Apply paints, varnishes, stains, lacquers, and other finishes with brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
  • Hang wallpaper and decorative wall coverings as required.
  • Protect surrounding areas with drop sheets and masking materials.

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Painter to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing surfaces, applying paints and protective coatings, and delivering high-quality finishes across residential, commercial, and industrial projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare interior and exterior surfaces by cleaning, sanding, scraping, filling cracks and holes, and removing old paint or wallpaper.
  • Select and prepare paints, stains, varnishes, and other coating materials by mixing colours and textures to achieve the required finish.
  • Apply paints, varnishes, stains, lacquers, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
  • Hang wallpaper, vinyl wall coverings, and decorative finishes where required.
  • Protect surrounding areas with drop sheets, masking tape, and other protective materials before commencing work.
  • Erect and work safely from ladders, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms as required.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure a high-quality finish and carry out touch-ups where necessary.
  • Clean, maintain, and store painting tools and equipment.
  • Follow workplace health and safety procedures and comply with relevant building standards.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, clients, and other tradespeople to ensure projects are completed on time and to specification.

Skills and Experience

  • A relevant qualification (NZQF Level 4 or equivalent) or at least 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Sound knowledge of surface preparation techniques, paint products, and application methods.
  • Experience using painting tools, spray equipment, and access equipment safely.
  • Ability to read and interpret job specifications and work instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality workmanship.
  • Good physical fitness and ability to work at heights when required.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • A current driver's licence is desirable.
