Job summary

Jora New Zealand is seeking a Painter to join our Tauranga team in the Bay of Plenty. You will prepare surfaces and apply paint and protective finishes on residential and commercial projects, ensuring quality, adherence to project specs, and safety standards. This is a full-time, permanent role with a minimum of 30 hours per week.

Salary ranges from $25.00 to $28.00 per hour depending on experience. We have 4 vacancies and expect candidates with strong prep, coating, and finish abilities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years' relevant painting experience with verifiable employment records.
  • Ability to prepare surfaces, mix paints and finishes, and apply coatings to a high standard using brushes, rollers and spray equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and finishing specifications.
  • Knowledge of relevant painting standards, safety procedures, and quality requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality workmanship.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares surfaces by removing old paint and filling holes and cracks, and covers surfaces with drop cloths or masking tape to protect surrounding areas.
  • Applies plaster, filler and jointing compounds to walls and ceilings to prepare surfaces for painting.
  • Sands and smooths plastered and stopped surfaces to achieve an even finish prior to painting.
  • Selects and mixes paints, stains and other coatings to achieve the required colour and finish.
  • Applies paint, varnish and other finishes to surfaces using brushes, rollers and spray equipment.
  • Smooths and sands surfaces between coats and inspects finished work to ensure it meets specifications.
  • Consults with clients or supervisors on colour schemes and finishes, and estimates the cost and time required for painting work.
  • Operates and maintains painting tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and organised work area.
  • Works closely with supervisors and other trades to meet project deadlines.
  • Complies with all health, safety, and company policies at all times.

ABOUT THE ROLE

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
