Job summary

WasteCo NZ Ltd is seeking an experienced Driver to join our Timaru team. This role involves operating a variety of waste collection equipment, performing general Labouring duties, and interacting with customers daily.

You will report to the Team Leader and be responsible for safe, efficient collection services, vehicle checks, and accurate paperwork, while ensuring compliance with NZ transport rules.

Responsibilities

• Operate rear-load compactors and empty bins.
• Collect and empty front-load bins safely and efficiently.
• Load and unload gantry bins.
• Follow routes provided by Scheduling and Dispatch.
• Complete daily pre-start checks and logbook entries.
• Ensure customer collection requests are completed.
• Complete all required paperwork accurately.
• Communicate professionally with customers.
• Report operational issues and fleet repairs promptly.
• Attend toolbox meetings.
• Follow WasteCo driving policies and NZ transport requirements.

Are you an experienced driver who enjoys being active, working outdoors and delivering great service to customers?

WasteCo is looking for a reliable and safety-focused Driver to join our team in Timaru. This is a varied, hands-on role involving driving, waste collection, general labouring and regular interaction with customers.

Reporting to the Team Leader, you will be responsible for delivering safe, efficient and reliable collection services to customer sites while operating a range of collection vehicles and equipment.

About the role

Your responsibilities will include:

• Operating rear-load compactors and emptying bins
• Collecting and emptying front-load bins safely and efficiently
• Loading and unloading gantry bins
• Following transport routes provided by Scheduling and Dispatch
• Completing daily pre-start checks and logbook entries
• Ensuring customer collection requests are completed
• Completing all required paperwork accurately
• Communicating professionally with customers
• Reporting operational issues, incidents and fleet repairs promptly
• Attending toolbox meetings
• Following WasteCo driving policies and New Zealand transport requirements

What you’ll bring

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Class 1 and Class 2 driver licences
• A positive and friendly attitude
• Clear communication and good customer service skills
• The ability to manage multiple time-sensitive priorities
• A flexible and adaptable approach
• A strong commitment to workplace health and safety
• Basic computer knowledge and confidence using an iPad, preferred but not essential
• At least one year’s experience in a similar role, preferred but not essential

F, D and G endorsements would be desirable but are not essential.

About you

You will be someone who takes pride in working safely, follows established processes and can be relied upon to complete customer collections accurately and on time. You will be comfortable working independently while remaining connected with the wider operations team.
