This is a fixed-term opportunity from 1 December 2026 to 31 March 2027 to support the library during our busy summer holiday period.

Either:

12 hours per week, worked as 2 hours per day across 6 days.

Or:

We are a focused and committed team who take pride in delivering excellence in customer experience.

In this busy role, you will be supporting our team in the smooth running of the Waiheke Community Library by making sure all library resources are correctly shelved and presented to our high standard.

You will also respond to our customers' queries in a friendly and approachable manner as well as making accurate referrals.

If you have a positive attitude, a passion for libraries, a good standard of literacy and numeracy and a keen eye for detail, this could be a great opportunity for you!

You will be reliable, organised, and enjoy working in a customer-focused environment. You'll take pride in maintaining accurate shelving and presentation standards and feel confident providing friendly assistance and guidance to library customers. You will also enjoy working as part of a team and contributing to a welcoming library environment.

Physical fitness and stamina are essential, as you will be on your feet most of the time and will be required to move heavy items.

At Auckland Council, you will join a dynamic, supportive environment where your mahi (work) will directly impact the lives of over 1.7 million Aucklanders. We offer flexible working conditions, a focus on well-being, and a culture of continuous improvement.

You will be part of Australasia's largest public libraries network and have the opportunity to make an impact in one of New Zealand's fastest growing cities. Together, we can create a Tāmaki Makaurau we can all be proud of.

Additionally, as part of Auckland Council, you will gain access to many benefits and discounts including:

  • Discounts on attractions such as the Maritime Museum, Auckland Zoo & Auckland Art Gallery
