About the Role

Our client, a prominent architectural and engineering firm, is seeking a dynamic Lead Structural Engineer (Building Design) to manage their structural engineering department in Queenstown, Eastern Cape . This senior role requires a seasoned professional with extensive experience in the structural design of various building types, including commercial, residential, and institutional facilities. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership capabilities, a deep understanding of structural analysis and design principles, and a commitment to delivering innovative and safe building structures. You will be responsible for overseeing project teams, ensuring design quality, and fostering client relationships. This is a significant opportunity to lead and shape major building projects in the Queenstown area.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the structural design and analysis for a variety of building projects from concept to completion.
• Oversee the work of structural engineers and technicians, ensuring high standards of design and technical accuracy.
• Develop detailed structural designs, calculations, drawings, and specifications for building elements (foundations, columns, beams, slabs, etc.).
• Ensure all designs comply with the latest South African National Standards (SANS), building codes, and relevant regulations.
• Manage project schedules and budgets related to structural engineering tasks.
• Collaborate effectively with architects, MEP engineers, and other project stakeholders to achieve integrated design solutions.
• Conduct site inspections to monitor construction progress and address any structural issues that may arise.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering their technical skills and career development.
• Engage with clients and contractors to discuss design proposals, resolve queries, and ensure project satisfaction.
• Stay abreast of new materials, technologies, and design methodologies in building structures.

Requirements

• BEng or BSc in Civil/Structural Engineering.
• Professional registration as Pr.Eng with ECSA is mandatory.
• A minimum of 9 years of comprehensive experience in structural engineering, with a strong focus on building design.
• Proven expertise in using structural analysis software (e.g., ETABS, SAP2000, PROKON) and CAD software.
