Job summary

ERoad in Auckland (Albany HQ) is seeking an intermediate Software Engineer to join our Java engineering team, responsible for backend features end-to-end on a cloud-native, event-driven SaaS platform.

You will build and evolve microservices and RESTful APIs, design with security and scalability in mind, and work alongside AI tools while reviewing AI-generated code before merge. You’ll participate in on-call rotations and report to the Chapter Lead.

Qualifications

• Production experience with Java in backend systems.
• Hands-on experience using AI coding tools or agents.
• Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms.
• Microservice architecture and RESTful API design.
• Experience with MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server.
• Automated testing design across unit, component, integration.
• Git experience with trunk-based development and CI/CD.
• Docker and containerisation experience.
• Monitoring, alerting and observability basics.
