ERoad is a Kiwi success story in fleet management technology, building Android apps that run across thousands of connected vehicles worldwide. The Senior Mobile Developer will own features from design to production, collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team in Auckland and beyond.

You will work with Java/Kotlin, coroutines and modern Android APIs, while exploring Kotlin Multiplatform for shared code. This role offers growth in a fast-paced, scale-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Strong experience with Java and Kotlin, with Kotlin as primary language.
• Solid understanding of the Android API, native ABI and app lifecycle.
• Proficiency with coroutines for concurrency.
• Experience building Android apps without relying on application frameworks.
• Ability to write clean, modular, maintainable code.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE COMPANY

ERoad is a Kiwi success story in fleet management technology, giving transport and other fleet operators the tools to track, manage and stay compliant across New Zealand, Australia and North America, and this Senior Mobile Developer role has opened up in its mobile developers team, reporting to the Chapter Lead.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Build and maintain Android applications working directly against platform APIs and native ABI, without relying on application frameworks
• Manage concurrency using coroutines to keep apps responsive and efficient
• Work across the application lifecycle to ensure stability and performance in real-world conditions
• Contribute to back-end functionality using Node.js, Kotlin and Java
• Get exposure to Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) as part of shared app development
• Write clean, modular and maintainable code that the wider mobile team can build on

WHAT YOU NEED

• Strong experience with Java and Kotlin, with Kotlin preferred as your primary language
• Solid understanding of the Android API, native ABI and application lifecycle
• Proficiency with coroutines for concurrency
• Experience building Android apps without relying on application frameworks
• Ability to write clean, modular, maintainable code
• Familiarity with Git
• A minimum of two years' experience as a Senior Mobile Software Developer
• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent hands-on Android/Kotlin experience
• Experience with any of the following is a plus: Android Location Manager, Sensors or Bluetooth, automated test frameworks, performance profiling tools, CI/CD, or open-source/GitHub contributions
