Job summary

Bidfood is seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to lead the Auckland South HR function and support about 200 employees across a fast-paced foodservice distribution operation. You will report to the branch General Manager and work closely with branch leaders to provide practical people solutions and foster a high-performing culture.

This varied, hands-on role entails coaching leaders, managing ER matters, recruitment, payroll support and HR reporting while ensuring NZ employment

Qualifications

• Some generalist HR experience with NZ employment law.
• Experience managing investigations, disciplinary and performance issues.
• Strong relationship building and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the day-to-day HR function for the Auckland South branch.
• Provide practical employment relations advice to managers and employees.
• Manage investigations, disciplinary processes, performance and attendance.
• Coach leaders to effectively manage their teams.
• Oversee recruitment, onboarding and employee lifecycle activities.
• Support payroll administration and resolve payroll issues.
• Monitor turnover, absenteeism and retention.
• Support employee engagement, wellbeing and recognition initiatives.
• Build positive relationships across the branch and with unions where required.
• Ensure compliance with NZ employment legislation, agreements and policies.
• Produce HR reporting and insights for operational decisions.

Job description

At Bidfood, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We're looking for an experienced and practical Human Resources Manager to lead the branch HR function (at Auckland South near the airport) and help support our 200 employees across our fast paced foodservice distribution operation.

Reporting directly to the branch General Manager and supported by a direct report, you'll be the key HR contact for the branch, working alongside the branch leaders and employees to provide practical people solutions, support positive employment relationships and help create a high-performing workplace culture.

This is a varied, hands-on role ideal for someone who enjoys being close to the business, building strong relationships and providing practical HR support across a broad range of people matters.

What you'll be doing

• Leading and managing the day-to-day HR function for the Auckland South branch
• Providing practical employment relations advice and support to managers and employees
• Managing investigations, disciplinary processes, performance management, attendance management
• Coaching and supporting leaders to effectively manage their teams
• Overseeing recruitment, onboarding and employee lifecycle activities
• Supporting payroll administration processes and resolving payroll-related issues
• Monitoring workforce trends including turnover, absenteeism and retention
• Supporting employee engagement, wellbeing and recognition initiatives
• Building positive working relationships across the branch, including union representatives where required
• Ensuring compliance with New Zealand employment legislation, employment agreements and company policies
• Producing HR reporting and insights to support operational decision-making

What we're looking for

• Some experience in a generalist HR role
• Sound working knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation
• Some experience managing investigations, performance management and employee relations processes
• Confidence influencing and coaching leaders in a practical and constructive way
• Strong relationship building and communication skills
• A solutions focused, hands on approach to HR
• High levels of professionalism, integrity and discretion
• Experience in warehousing, logistics, manufacturing, transport, distribution or other operational environments will be highly regarded
