Job summary

Whitestone Contracting is seeking an HR generalist for our Oamaru Head Office. This full-time, office-based role focuses on building strong relationships, supporting recruitment, onboarding, performance management and staff development across the business.

You'll work closely with managers and senior leaders, handling HR processes with discretion, and contributing to culture, engagement and workforce capability.

Qualifications

• Formal qualification in Human Resources, Business Management or equivalent.
• Practical HR experience supporting and developing employees.
• Confidence engaging with managers and senior leaders, building relationships.
• Experience with external stakeholders to grow workforce capability and culture.

What you'll be doing

No two days will look quite the same! You'll work closely with managers and senior leaders, supporting the development of our people and helping build a capable, engaged and successful workforce.

From recruitment and onboarding to employee relations, performance management, staff development and HR compliance, you'll be involved in a broad range of people-related activities.

You'll also work with external stakeholders to identify opportunities that strengthen workforce capability, while using HR information and insights to support informed decision-making. You'll need to be approachable, professional and comfortable handling confidential and sensitive matters with discretion.

What we’re looking for

To be successful, you’ll bring:

• A formal qualification in Human Resources, Business Management or an equivalent field.
• Practical experience in HR, particularly supporting, and developing employees.
• Confidence engaging with managers and senior leaders, building positive working relationships across an organisation.
• Demonstrated experience working with external stakeholders to support staff development and workforce capability.
• The ability to work full-time from our Oamaru Head Office.

It would be a bonus if you also have:

• Experience managing recruitment and onboarding processes.
• Exposure to disciplinary procedures and employee relations matters.
• Confidence working with HR data, reporting and interpreting information.
• Experience in civil construction, contracting, transport or a similar operational industry.
• A working understanding of New Zealand employment legislation.
