Oceania is seeking a dedicated Healthcare Assistant to join Gracelands in Hastings, Hawke's Bay. You will support residents to live with dignity, comfort, and connection, delivering person-centred care within a supportive team.

With at least 1 year of caregiving experience, you’ll work flexibly across rosters, including weekends and overnights. We offer competitive pay, ongoing development, wellbeing support, and a meaningful role in New Zealand’s aged-care network.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year of caregiving, aged care, or similar role.
  • Compassionate, patient, and respectful approach to caring for older adults.
  • Clear communication and a strong team-focused mindset.
  • Willingness to work a rotating roster, including weekends and night shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care maintaining dignity, privacy, and comfort.
  • Support residents with daily activities (hygiene, mobility, nutrition, hydration).
  • Observe and respond to residents’ needs and escalate concerns.
  • Build respectful relationships with residents and families/whānau.
  • Create a safe, clean, and welcoming environment promoting wellbeing and independence.
  • Follow individual care plans and collaborate with Registered Nurses for high-quality care.
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with residents, families, and team.
  • Ensure health, safety and infection control practices are followed.

What you’ll be doing: As a Healthcare Assistant, you will support residents to live with comfort, dignity, and independence, delivering care that is respectful, safe, and genuinely person-centred. You’ll focus on building trusting relationships and creating a calm, supportive environment where residents feel listened to, valued, and cared for. You will:

  • Provide personal care in a way that maintains dignity, privacy, and comfort
  • Support residents with daily activities such as hygiene, mobility, nutrition, and hydration
  • Observe and respond to residents’ physical and emotional needs, escalating concerns appropriately
  • Build warm, respectful relationships with residents and their families/whānau
  • Create a safe, clean, and welcoming environment that promotes wellbeing and independence
  • Follow individual care plans and work closely with Registered Nurses to ensure consistent, high-quality care
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with residents, families, and your wider team
  • Take responsibility for health, safety, and infection control practices to keep everyone safe

What you’ll bring:
