Job summary

Oceania, a leading provider of retirement living and aged care in New Zealand, seeks a Healthcare Assistant to join Palm Grove in Christchurch on a fixed-term 11-month contract. You will support residents to live with dignity, comfort, and connection, delivering person-centred care alongside a values-driven team.

With at least 1 year in caregiving, you’ll bring compassion, clear communication, and a flexible approach to shifts, including weekends and nights, while working with Registered Nurses

• A compassionate, patient, and respectful approach to caring for older adults.
• Clear communication skills and a strong team-focused mindset.
• A commitment to safety, dignity, and resident-centred care.
• Flexibility to work a rotating roster, that may include weekends and night shifts.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal care in a way that maintains dignity, privacy, and comfort
• Support residents with daily activities such as hygiene, mobility, nutrition, and hydration
• Observe and respond to residents’ physical and emotional needs, escalating concerns appropriately
• Build warm, respectful relationships with residents and their families/whānau
• Create a safe, clean, and welcoming environment that promotes wellbeing and independence
• Follow individual care plans and work closely with Registered Nurses to ensure consistent, high-quality care
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with residents, families, and your wider team
• Take responsibility for health, safety, and infection control practices to keep everyone safe

This is a fixed-term opportunity to join our team for the next 11 months. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about delivering meaningful care and wants to be part of a supportive, values-driven team.

What you’ll be doing:

As a Healthcare Assistant, you will support residents to live with comfort, dignity, and independence, delivering care that is respectful, safe, and genuinely person-centred. You’ll focus on building trusting relationships and creating a calm, supportive environment where residents feel listened to, valued, and cared for. You will:
