Job summary

RDCL invites an Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer to join our Hawke's Bay team, combining hands-on fieldwork with geological interpretation, reporting and client engagement. You will work on diverse projects, with opportunities to travel within New Zealand and internationally.

Key duties include planning site investigations, geotechnical assessments, slope stability and foundation design, plus coordinating field activities and ensuring safe, on-time delivery.

Qualifications

• A tertiary qualification in Engineering or related discipline; honours or postgraduate study advantageous.
• At least four years of geotechnical consulting experience, NZ experience preferred.
• Experience in site investigations, geological logging and data interpretation.
• Strong technical writing, analytical and communication skills for senior review.
• NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa and a clean full NZ driver licence.

Responsibilities

• Plan and undertake site investigations, including geological mapping, soil and rock logging, field testing and construction observations.
• Interpret geological and geotechnical information, contribute to ground models, and identify geohazards and ground-related risks.
• Prepare proposals, investigation scopes, factual and interpretive reports, and clear technical recommendations under senior review.
• Complete geotechnical assessments, slope stability and foundation assessments, foundation design and earthworks inspections.
• Coordinate field activities, equipment and subcontractors, and ensure work is delivered safely, on time and within budget.
• Liaise with clients, contractors and the RDCL team, and support graduates and field technicians.
